Information for Oral Presenters

We are so excited to welcome you as a presenter at the 2023 ICEC! Below you will find all of the information you will need on preparing and submitting your presentation as well as CME/CEU requirements for speakers.

All oral abstract sessions will have 5 abstracts assigned to them for presentation. The presentations will be given in the order of their abstract numbers, for example, from 1A-1 to 1A-5. Each presenter will be allotted 12 minutes to give his/her presentation and 3 minutes for audience questions. The session moderator will introduce each speaker and keep the session on time. After all 5 presentations in the session have concluded, the remaining 10-15 minutes will be used for a general Q&A session for all presenters. The moderator will facilitate this panel-wide Q&A.

When you are presenting, please make every effort to use the provided microphone, even if there is a small audience in your room. Please see this great article on why you should always use the microphone, even if it seems like the audience is small enough that you need not use it!

We hope you are excited to attend the conference and present in Toronto, ON, Canada! We encourage you to download the "I'm Presenting" digital badge to the right (once it is available) and use it in email, on your website, on social media, etc. to let your colleagues know that you will be presenting at ICEC.

Prepare Your Slides

If possible, and for consistency's sake, presentations should be prepared using Microsoft PowerPoint in widescreen (16:9) format. With your permission, conference organizers will post your presentation in note-taking format (3 slides per page with lines for notes on the sides) as a non-editable PDF as a handout for conference registrants. Even if you do not wish to share your presentation handouts, we will still need your PowerPoint file in advance for review for CEU requirements (both physician and nurse CEU accreditation require this) and so that we can ensure your slides are available for presentation on the computer in the meeting room at the conference.

Slide Format Guidelines

The following are some suggestions to consider when preparing your slides that will maximize their impact and legibility:

  • Use several bullet points that target the topic on each slide, but no more than seven bullets per slide.
  • Use large, easy-to-read fonts, such as Arial.
  • Keep the text simple and concise (you should not put all of the text you will speak on your slide; audience members dislike having slides read aloud to them).
  • Mix text with graphics and figures for greater interest, but keep any charts/figures simple enough to be easily read from the back of the meeting room.
  • Orient all type horizontally, even on graphs and diagrams.
  • Consider colorblindness and clarity when choosing accent colors and backgrounds. Use light and dark colors that contrast each other for legibility.
  • Follow the "CME/CEU Requirements for Presentations" below.

Presentation Upload/Submission

All oral presenters, including invited and plenary speakers, workshop presenters, symposium presenters, panelists, and abstract presenters, are required to submit their PowerPoint presentations by 18 September 2023. If you have already submitted your presentation but you have made changes, please resubmit your presentation. We will be posting PDFs of your slides (if you give us permission to do so) by 27 September 2023 for conference attendees to view/print in advance and would like to use the most up-to-date versions. Submitting your materials before you arrive at the conference also makes the session go more smoothly as we can have your slides ready to go at the session computer before you arrive. Please contact us at with any questions.
